Author Character Disconnect

Hi, I'm Uenluom. I wrote this page to clarify my relationship with my characters.

Fuse is a dystopian world.

Fuse has many individuals in it who do terrible things. Often times, these terrible actions are unpunished or even rewarded. Unfortunately, like in our own world, those who do bad things go far.

Despite my characters doing terrible things, I want to stress that it doesn't mean I endorse their actions, even if they are greatly rewarded for them.

If a character brutally maims another for no reason, and sees no punishment for it, it does not mean that I endorse the maiming of another person.

Fuse itself was born out of a disenchantment with "fairy-tale endings." I hated that after all of the struggle and all of the loss of the main characters, everything was reverted into its best state.

When I think of this, Disney movies come to mind.

In these movies, a sad ending didn't exist. Even if Anna turns into an icicle, since it's a Disney movie she will invariably be revived. This usually happens by crying. Also Elsa says "you sacrificed yourself for me?" but she got revived so like... no? The entire weight of the scene is lost.

Fuse was in its origin a terrible twist on that idea. What if not only terrible things happened, but happy endings didn't exist?
